THE KING'S PLAYERS PRESENT:
THE RESISTIBLE RISE OF ARUTRO UI
by
BERTOLT BRECHT
DECEMBER 13th, 14th and 15th
Performed as part of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s ‘Open Stages’ project, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui depicts a society confronted with a ruthless dictator.
Transposing Hitler’s rise to power to 1930s Chicago, the play portrays a group of small-time gangsters led by the exploitative Arturo Ui charming and bullying their way to political supremacy. In its exploration of the dangers of defying despotism, Bertolt Brecht’s groundbreaking play asks: can the people resist, or will their apathy permit this new tyranny?
London’s historic Greenwood Theatre plays host to this dynamic revival of Brecht’s play, incorporating provocative film and inspirational design.
Amidst the turmoil of this year’s ‘Arab Spring’, we are reminded of how relevant its messages remain.
Hi Crazy about German, great stuff. I need your help, advice regarding similar issue.
ReplyDeleteWe opened a new gallery/cultural space close to Old street station called ARBEIT. We have exhibitions, discussions, different workshops, cinema club and a small library. We would like to create an art related platform between Germany and the UK. We have had German exhibitions, but would like to have more cultural events and I am wondering whether you or your organisation would be interested to organise such events or to cooperate with us.
Please have a look at the website (www.arbeit.org.uk) and let me know your thoughts. Thank you very much for your response in advance.
Vielen Dank,
