DAAD German Studies Summer School for Postgraduates

DAAD German Studies Summer School for Postgraduates

The inaugural German Studies Summer School for postgraduates will take place in Edinburgh from 31st May to 3rd June 2011. The summer school will bring together international postgraduate researchers from across the humanities whose work relates to German Studies: German literature and culture, social and political sciences, history, cultural and media studies, music, philosophy and linguistics. This year’s conference theme is “Stimmungen: Moods, Climates, Atmospheres”, and contributors come from across the UK as well as the Cluster of Excellence “Languages of Emotions” from the Free University of Berlin. Keynote speakers will be Dr Mary Cosgrove (Edinburgh), Dr Friederike Reents (Heidelberg), and Dr Steffen Lepa (FU Berlin).
The four-day meeting will comprise panels with research presentations, career planning seminars and research training workshops, with guests Sarah Colvin, Andreas Hoeschen (DAAD, London), and Consul General Wolfgang Mössinger. The summer school is run by a consortium of the Universities of Edinburgh, Nottingham, Manchester, Leeds, Oxford, Birmingham (IGS) and the IGRS London. It is open to postgraduates based anywhere in the UK, and is funded by the DAAD. There will be a conference fee of £50, but participants will receive free accommodation and food for the duration of the event; travel costs to and from Edinburgh will be reimbursed. The number of participants is limited to 45. The deadline for registration is 1 April 2011.
